Prague yesterday was delightful. Even as I sit here remembering the day, I am convinced that I need a little more time to let the experience sink in and take effect. On the other hand, I feel that some of the more minute, though no less significant, memories start to blur and fade as time moves on.
Prague is very touristy, so the sheer volume of people is a little frustrating as well as the fact that all of the people make it a little harder to appreciate the historical magnitude of the surroundings. Even still, one of my absolutely favorite things about Prague is that there are buildings from different centuries and periods right next to each other. For example, a building from the Gothic style will neighbor one from the renaissance. I love the contrast of the different eras. My other favorite from yesterday was the park on the little "island" separated from the mainland by the river and a canal. It is so beautiful!
Tomorrow is off to Italy and I am so very excited about this leg of the journey. We are going to be covering Milan, Cinque Terre and Venice (hopefully stopping at Padua and somewhere in Tuscany (Florence?) for a bit as well). I am so excited to walk where academic and literary luminaries walked, as well as simply soaking in the Italian atmosphere.
Three am. departure comes early though so I must be off to pack and sleep.
